Seems to me that when your characters most often get their power from being more than half crazy about one thing or another, an ineffectual mental healthcare facility would be just the thing. How much more frightening to find yourself surrounded by folks that genuinely cared about you and were practiced and professional at helping you regain a more balanced view of life. You'd be able to feel them drain your strength and somehow understand they were right to do it. Kinda Clockwork Orangy.
