I can't think of any prima facia reason why something couldn't work as
both an Avatar and an Adept doo-hickey, but remember their different
foci. Adepts are people with a depth of personal obsession which allows
them to side-cut some of the universal rules. Avatars connect to a
societal obsession which they don't even have to believe in.

In fact, we see a couple of things in the canon which have both an Adept
side and an Avatar side. Primarily, of course, is the Naked
Goddess/WECHBY. Pornomancers are personally obsessed with the person of
the naked goddess and the concept of sex as a means to power. Avatars of
the WECHBY are tapping into the societal concept of a woman that seems
promiscuous but unavailable -- a sort of combined Madonna/Whore.

The two paths end up in different places. Pornomancers have generalized
power over people's emotions. WECHBY Avatars would, I think (has it been
written up, yet? I don't follow the supplements) have a more specific
power of inspiring obsession and stand-off-ish-ness.
