Of course, the Chinese have their legends of the
Monkey King and his quest for enlightenment... which
is known as "The Journey West." Makes sense,
considering how Buddhism is one of the stong
influences on their folk religion, and it came from
India... to the West.
On the other hand, you could combine the two
worldviews, and come out with the "Mid-east"... but
I'd say that's got more of death to it than
enlightenment.
