I'm pretty sure that in one department at one college I was associated
with, there were three professors in one department whose lives intersected
like this.

Prof. A was the department chair.  At one time, she was engaged to Prof B.
Prof. B was tenured.  At one time engaged to Prof. A, he broke off the
engagement to marry Prof. C.
Prof. C was also tenured, and married to Prof. B whom she "stole" from Prof. A.

I think Prof. C later became department head.
