I find White Wolf games very stifling. There is a
huge and overly detailed backstory, there are tons of
rules, and alot of the rules tell your character what
emotions to feel. I like role-playing to be a
creative experience, and its hard to be creative when
people are spouting trivia or I'm trying to remember
how to run some challenge.
Also, I think if people have big character sheets with
lots of rules, they'll focus on the rules, where as if
people have pretty empty character sheets they'll be
forced to roleplay more. Also, with less rules, there
ris more room to fiddle with the character and create
his personality after the game starts. With WW, you
have the nature and demanor all worked out ahead of
time, along with the stereotypes of what you're
playing, etc. Its good if you're having a hard time
acting and need a crutch, but it just slows you down
otherwise.
That's my experience anyway.
