 Hey, don't get me wrong - I have no big love for ;-).  But if ;-) saves me from a flood of irate email or an IM conversation gone awry, I'm gonna use it.  Maybe even a lol or an imho.
But none of that other shite.

Emoticons aren't really appropriate for business communications,
at least not in my end of the world (both day-job and the
various managerial communications course I've taken). They're
seen as unprofessional.
