Hmmm... this kind of reminds me of the Arthurian
"Questing Beast" and Fisher King stories (except, of
course, the Fisher King sometimes leads Percival to
the grail.)

Riffing on that:

The Room Out of Reach
The Room of Beastly Acceptance
The Grail Room
The Room of Hopeless Quests
The Room of Lost Errands
The Room of Letting Go
The Room in the Temple
The Room of Crippled Pride
The Gentle Room

Maybe you should lend a more sinister air to the
"kindly and understanding" preist angle, maybe the
preist could be a gamesman or something and always
urge visitors to the room into some sort of game,
chess, checkers, whatever. The preist always wins.
The Preist may make a bet that the visitor can leave
if they win. The Preist may then move on to other
aspects of the visitor's life, always finding a way to
make the same challenge and always proving to be one
better than the poor victim.

Maybe the room has images (stained glass windows,
insets in completely generic religious texts,
carvings, child's drawings left on pews or stuck in
radiators, etc) of heroes and those who defeated them,
or nobodies and the causes which lead them to their
doom.

Like Edward Leedskalin and the coral castle in Florida
or the Flying Dutchman.
