[UA] Question about Hunches

One of my players got a hunch during combat and he was 
very happy as he rolled a 44. But then he came to the conclusion
that he had to roll initiative(Do you roll each round?) and so would
"loose" the roll? 

Now I wonder. Could it be possible to choose to be the last in a round and
by in so doing, skip the initiative roll?
