lol ! It's funny. But i'm not the first french suscriber
here, I think ? In fact, Will gave me the ML's url.

Any thoughts?

In fact, i just played last week end the introducing
scenario (in the rulebook), and my players said "it's an
american game" (it wasn't a critic : for us, it means : it's
exotic ! :-). So, yes, I think UA is based upon american
culture. Several elements allow me, IMHO, to make this
statement :
- postmodernism is a movement much more vivid in america
than europa, where modernism has roots back to Renaissance.
The idea of postmodern magick, and the new age way of life,
are more american than european. history is a legacy claimed
by sects or occultists (see the rosicrucians, i.e.), and the
cultural melting pot is, for me, something you can't find
here, on the old continent. So, for us, UA is very novative,
cause our french modern RPG tend to recycle history and
culture, and are too respectuous. Nephilim is a good
exemple.
(By the way, by "american" i don't mean "north american". I
lived a few years in Brazil, and the syncretism I try to
point out is very strong here, too.)
- elements of game are americans, too : sects, furious
action, guns, occult underground, big cities, fill the
atmosphere, and transposing these elements stricto sensu in
France wouldn't make much sense.
- On the other way, the sleepers sourcebook is interesting,
because it extends the setting, which tends to become
global. It should be interesting to think about european
unknown armies. I'll post this subject on the french ML. And
I'll crawl through the archives for the thread.
