My high school math teacher fought in Korea, and for a while was assigned to a short range nuclear squad. They had a jeep, a nuclear projectile (with an explosion radius of about 5 miles) and a cannon that would fire the projectile about three miles. They never used it, but if they had, they'd have gone up as well.
Erm, to move back on topic, was he channeling the Martyr (for his coutnry) or the Soldier (my guess, as he was always telling war stories but rarely suffering for a cause).
