Some do, increasingly more so. One of the platforms for the upcoming
General Election is how much we want to increase ties with Europe.
Calling it 'Continental Europe' doesn't change that - that's simply a
description. It is a Continent, and Britain isn't joined (by land above
sea level) to that continent.
The French could refer to Britain as "Islandic Europe" (I think I may have
made a word up there) or 'The North-West European Archipelego." The fact
that they don't isn't much more significant that us referring to
'Continental Europe'.
