As the page popped open, I read the title, "Confederate sub's skipper found

Science Shorts: Commander's remains are last to be identified "

and thought, "Kewl. So he's The First and Last Man," and WHAMMO! It hit me
like a ton of mayonnaise. It dinna have to mean what ye and me think it
means. Ye can be flexible, and tie yer players' brains into knots. Which
sorta precludes my idea of The Penultimate Man, which is the first person to
become aware of who and what the Comte is, and becomes obsessed with
stopping him by Any Means Necessary, which usually translates into he / she
becoming Wiley Coyote to the Comte's RoadRunner. An annoyance, sure, but
the ill conceived plans have a tendency to ripple out in all directions.
