That would certainly be a sneaky thing to do to some
friends I know who only want to play Shadowrun. You
could work some other Philip K. Dick stuff into the
whole setting (images of the Black Iron Prison, or the
profession of Tire Regroover from "Our Friends from
Phryggia 7" -or is that "8?"), maybe try and tell it
with some Borges magic realism. I tried running a
Shadowrun game with Feng Shui rules and the players
certainly liked it.
I always wanted to tell Shadowrun stories about
actually comitting crimes like bank robberies or con
jobs. I certainly enjoy "The Great Train Robbery" or
"Sneakers" or "Shallow Grave" better than "Resevoir
Dogs" or "The Taking of Pelham 123," althought the
latter are how Shadowrun games certainly seem to come
out.
I can see a campaign forming now: "Dog Day Tomorrow,"
some guys try and knock over an archology credit
center and get trapped by just plain bad luck. During
their imprisonment, they get a good look at how much
magic has grown up through the cracks in the big
dystopian city where they live. I'll probably have to
put some elves in it for the players to bite the hook,
but I might get a great game out of it.
(Also, I like Stolze's rules better than FASA's. Two
d10s beat 27 d6s nine times out of ten.)
