I'm inclined to agree about their improving any game setting.

One of my first ideas upon reading the UA book was about a whole traveling carnival sort of place, which in its most recent version involved an epideromancer creating his own freak show.  It's never really developed beyond an idea, though, largely because I know very, very little about the working of a carnival (one of my friends worked as a carny and offered me a summer job, but I opted for some other work).
