You mean a country like the U.S.? Have you visited the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund's website? ( www.cbldf.org )
There are cities where their libraries may not
>carry books around here and schools that won't teach them, but the idea of a
>book being illegal to own, read, or distribute totally wierds me out. I can
>walk down the street with a copy of Mein Kompf, The Torah translated into
>English, the Protocals of the Elders of Zion, and the Huey P. Newton story
>all at once and have bought them at the same store. Further, if someone
>tried to keep me from getting any of these, I could sue them (and win
>money). I really don't understand a country any other way.
Depending on who you're suing. If you were to sue (or be sued) by a large corporation, they could just outlast you and make you go bankrupt through lawyer and court fees. (Which is why the CBLDF exists, to provide funding for the little guy in such cases).
>I'm not saying it isn't worth placing these things in different countries
>and changing them, but I think it's silly to assume that any of us really
>understand each other's cultures without seeing them firsthand.
To get somewhere back ontopic: the rpg webzine Critical Miss ( www.criticalmiss.com ) has articles on roleplaying in various english speaking nations written by inhabitants thereof, attempting to debunk some of the myths that foreigners (foreign to whichever country is discussed, that is) might have about it. The American one is questionable, due to the author not seeming to know what foreigners actually think about America. I can't really comment on the accuracy of the other articles. You'll have to look through their archives a bit; I apologize.
Mr. Teapot
is too lazy to find a link to each article
