"Dun glais" means "dark water" and the family name comes from a river whose
bed is filled with dark stones.  "Doug" is a bit odd, for translation
purposes, since it cuts through the middle of one of the Gaelic words.
"Dun - g" however might refer to Merlin, renamed in to Latin because his
Welsh name "Myrddin", sounds too much like "Merde - dun" - literally "Dung
hill".

No offence intended.  Tongue firmly in cheek.
