Road Trip!  Excellent idea!  You can add bizarre or
unnerving stuff along the way.  You can have freak
shows where the players get invited backstage for a
game of cards with a Plutomancer/Entropomancer combo
(alluding to "Earthquake Weather" et al.)  (Make sure
the Chicken Lady deals off the bottom of the deck.)

You can have one of the players get hurt and end up in
a hospital where either David Jansen or Harrison Ford
or (and I shudder with delighted anticipation at the
very thought) Bill Bixby, who is currently posing as a
stage magician in the children's ward, save the
character's life and then go rushing off as a
stern-looking detective-like character arrives to ask
Too Many Questions.

You can have the players pass through the Nevada
Desert or the Black Forrest or Rennes-le-Chateau and
find a washed-up showgirl in a human-sized parakeet
cage on the edge of an unused side road.

You can get rescued from whiskey-running thugs in
Tenessee by Buford Pusser's demon, still crusading
against crime with the help of a justice-obssessed
dipsomancer.
