Well, I agree, but the real limiting factor here is
personal time. For me, a game is like a Saturday
Night poker session With the Boys or my Dad's
one-day-a-month golf outings. There are lots of games
out there and I enjoy playing most of them, sometimes
in spite of the rules and content. I certainly don't
have the cash to go to more than one convention a year
-if that- and I opt for the cheap local ones (I've got
no reason to "network" with gamers who live on another
continent -no offense, but we're not likely to get
together for a game any time soon.)
So, when I talk about games, I talk about games I'm
playing now or would be interested in playing again.
I'm as subject to nostalgia as anybody else, but if I
talk about something, it's because I want to play it
or am looking for those who will.
It's easier to get people talking about old games,
because their memories will no doubt have eased over
some of the pain. Games which have fewer painful
memories associated with them, UA, fortunately, falls
into that category, or ones with systems more to my
taste (most R. Talsorian, Ghostbusters, UA, FUDGE,
OtE, Theatrix -sorta-, even Call of Cthulhu/Runequest)
stick with me.
