Greg, this is your basic ephiphany - the King Arthur stories are full of
"evil knight gets stuffing knocked out by Lancelot and becomes good enough
that Lancelot has to kill him later when the really good knights point out
shagging the Queen is distinctly uncool".  It's a convention of the genre.

Superhero games too - from Marvel we have Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Wonder
Man, Hawkeye, Vision...

Oh, and DArth Vader, obviously...
