I was trying to think of a movie where the bad guy won, and the hero lost. I could think of movies where both lost (Akira, any given Shakespearean tragedy) but not much in the way of bad guys winning.
Brazil has the good guy clearly lose, and the inhuman 'villain' (if a society can be a villain) winning. Plan Nine From Outer Space has humanity destroying the entire universe, eventually (though the ending seems to ignore that and be rather happy). I'm uncertain where "Fight Club" fits in there. Would it be unreasonable to mention "Monty Python's the Life of Brian" as having the protagonist lose?
Mr. Teapot
good guy who loses
