The trick, I suppose, would be discerning the demon's
identity. I've never been really clear on how you go
about doing that.
Sure, you can peice together clues -slips of the
tongue, the demon's obsession (I like the idea that
the demon must always act on their obsession: but I
would say that the demon automatically is ousted from
their host body if they fail to pursue the very thing
that drew them back to the flesh in the first place.)
But demons lie to get what they want, good or bad.
So, Proxy-wise, you're desperately trying to create a
magical ritual which allows you to assume the identity
of someone you don't really know or understand.
I demon I often use is Harriet. She was an accountant
who read a lot of supernatural thrillers when alive.
She always thought God gyped her by pumping up her
libido and giving her a saggy, lumpy ass. So she
usually claims to be "Baphomet" at first or Ashtaroth.
What she WANTS to do is get the attention (not
necessarily the sex) that she deserved when she was
alive -preferrably by letting her much-lauded
"personality" shine through in a more attractive body.
Harriet's not stupid. She doesn't mention much of
her mortal life, but she does remember a lot of it.
So, how do you figure enough out about Harriet to do a
proxy of her? Furthermore, an adept demon still
pursuing the power of, say, masks from beyond the
grave is gonna have trouble performing a Proxy ritual
unless he gets a body(I know you mentioned this,
Norwood, but I felt it needed to be reiterated.)
