Since we're going international...
In Germany, you can buy beer, wine and hard booze at regular supermarkets, which
are usualley open from 8:00 to 19:00 or 20:00. After that, you still can get
take-away alcohol (even hard booze) at about every second petrol station (for
about every second petrol station is open 24x7). In cities, that is. In more
rural areas, you'd have a *much* harder time getting booze when the regular
shops are closed.
Bars and clubs usually are open until 2 or 3 am as well.
I'm not too sure about other european countries. I remember that getting booze
was much harder in England when I had been there on school exchange so many
years ago (it's usually not a problem getting beer or wine if you're - say - 16
or something in Germany), but I don't know how accurate these memories are. I do
know that the scandinavian countries (Sweden, Finland) do have very strict laws
concerning alcohol, but again, I'm lost for details. I do know that Kiel, being
a mayor german port on the baltic sea and getting lots of ferry traffic from
scandinavia, has it's regular share of scandinavians who take short weekend
vacations to enjoy the cheap booze here.
Hmmm - Dipso-tourism, anyone...? 8)
