[UA] Ayn Rand(omfactor)

I really don't mind someone chiming in with their
personal opinions on any given subject. It gives me a
richer understanding of the kind of people who play UA
and the way different viewpoints interact.

And yeah, while the Ayn Rand stuff is getting and and,
no, I don't agree with most of Ayn Rand's philosophy,
there are still points to be made both for reading the
books and for elements of the UAverse.

Self-interest, alone, is a great theme for a campaign.
How much does society owe an individual? How bad is
it to look out for your own butt? How much "good" is
simply a case of overlapping self interest?

Reading "The Fountainhead" not only gives a
well-thought out (if wacky and reactionist) viewpoint,
but also provides a spooky organization for players to
run into.

The same goes for any work of literature, good or bad.
 I've used Valentine's cult, from Heinlein's /Stranger
in a Stange Land/ as the adversaries in a Cthulhu game
(cannibalism, psychic powers and sexual deviance,
Philip Marlowe would have a field day -if he wasn't
Grok'd out of existence first.)

So, once again, I'm pitchin' my two cents in for the
off-topic stuff. I don't mind havin' to put (OT)
before messages that have no UA content and I think
that's a good compromise, but I am not gonna snub
someone just because they have a strong opinion which
varies from my own.
