> I always wonder about mentioning something directly related to one related to part of the UA world, but where the connection should be clear by itself without mentioning it. Consider the rather long discussion about dreams, which is directly tied to Oneiromancy, but we rarely mentioned it directly. This thread eventually was called off-topic by someone, but it seemed to provide lots of information and ideas about scary things to do with dreams, so would still be useful for GMs using such things in their games.

That was definitely a borderline case. I think I was the one who
complained about it being OT: like Cassaddy Toles just said, it wasn't
so much that it was OT as that it was getting really old. A few nifty
things about dreams... great. But then you get fifteen people in a row
posting about deja vu with message bodies two pages long full of quotes
followed by "Yeah, that happens to me too! It's so weird!". I guess I
figure that if people want to post inane messages that deal with UA,
well, this is a UA list. But when they start posting inane messages that
have nothing to do with UA, it bugs me.

I was on digest mode at the time, and it was really frustrating. I
couldn't find any of the content of the list without digging through the
garbage. I'm off digest now, so it's no longer such a big deal.

> I tend to think this sort of thing is best left to the individual reader. If you can't see any UA-relevance in a thread, stop reading it and delete all messages of that thread from your inbox.

Again, this is an option only now that I'm off digest. Another
frustrating thing here is that on- and off-topic posts will get mixed
into the same thread, so I don't know if I'm missing interesting
discussion about the Freak in a thread mostly populated with people
arguing about the importance of nature vs. nurture in shaping gender
roles (which is exactly the kind of discussion I've had a million times
and if I'm interested, there are lots of interesting, accurate,
informative resources out there for me to explore instead of listening
to the people on the UA role-playing game list talk about it). That's
why it would be nice if the ones not dealing DIRECTLY with UA could be
marked with (OT): it would distinguish sub-threads from each other.
