Yeah, I like that. It makes for heroism that hurts. 
You could have your "White Knight" doing all sorts of
incredible things, but not being able to accept credit
for any of them, sort of like being a superhero
(suddenly masked wrestlers and prophets of doom in
false beards pop into my mind.)  If your magic
"improves oneself," in a non-obvious way, you've got a
nice counterpoint to dipsomancers.  Also, if you keep
the self-confidence aspect of the taboo, any
Invideomancer who actually PROMISED to do something,
or claimed they could, wouldn't be able to because
they'd have broken the taboo and lost all charges.
(If you really wanted a Kevin Matchstick character,
this would certain be a good substitute.)
