Isolation: Take a cue or two from "V for Vendetta" or
"The Prisoner." All characters become "projections"
when you're not looking directly at them. Out of the
corner of your eye, your best friend becomes a person
who exists only in a Rock-Band Poster, another is a
shill in a magazine ad and a third is made up of names
and facts scrawled on a wall. To make matters worse,
no direct action leads "out," everything occurs in
what may very well be somebody's bedroom, but any
attempt to leave is "discouraged." That doesn't mean
doors open into walls or anything, it just means that
if a character tries to raise the window shade,
something more important calls them away. If someone
wants to see what's beyond the next door, a creak or
noise or crash or tap on the shoulder keeps them from
turning the knob. It's not that the players can't go
out, it's just that they can't MORALLY choose to leave
and rejoin the real versions of everyone else.
UNNATURAL: Causation breaks down. The sun SHOULD come
up outside the window, but it won't (without prayer or
sacrifice.) Guns don't fire, taking a step forward
does NOT move you in that direction. Breathing does
not refresh you unless you do something magical to
help it along. No natural law works unless you appeal
to the supernatural for help.
