Funny, my experience has been almost the opposite, in that I'd point out a well known philosopher's argument (and a well known arguemtn in philosophical circles) against their epistemology, metaphysics, or really any part of the philosophy, and they'd have no idea what I was talking about.

Seeing as I sort of fall into the category of people who haven't really studied the real world and all, that is.  kinda looking at them from the other side, I suppose.
