The image I always get is a little kid playing with action figures. when one of the action figures does something in the game that the kid thinks is wrong, he throws the kid into the trash compactor (or sets it on fire or whatver). 'good' action figures get well cared for. That all the actions the action figures 'do' are done by the kid pretending that they're doing them is irrelevant from the kid's perspective, as he knows it's just a game and they're just toys. From the figure's perspective, however, the world is horribly fucked up and there's nothing you can do about it.

There's something fairly creepy there anyway (I'd like to have a little kid antagonist animating action figures and punishing them at random, like some little tyrant). Or perhaps a mechanomancer punishing his creations for thing she told it to do.
