If it's destroyed, it's gone.  The NG sect considers them blashpemers to be
jihadded -- if they know about it and accept that their holy book is really
gone.

Depending on the tone of your game, you might want to whip around some
unnatural phenomena, but I think an anticlimax (magick-wise) might also be
effective.  They go through all this bullshit to get the thing, adepts are
chasing after it with their chins all shiny with drool, they destroy it
and... nothing.

If the reinstatement of capital punishment was clearly doing nothing to
reduce the number of murders in those states permitting it, it certainly
appeared to be cutting down on the number of confessions.
