But of course.  I think a particularly PoMo/UA scene
occurs near the end of the book.  The hero, Charles
Beauregard, is fleeing the charnel house of Buckingham
Palace and Lord Ruthven blocks the door.  The
political state of England is in turmoil and
Beauregard could either turn out to be a traitor or a
hero.  In desperation, Beauregard's companion holds
out a cross, half aware that it has no effect on
Ruthven as it does other vampires.  Ruthven, sizing up
the political situation, looks at the cross, shrugs
and simply steps aside.  That scene alone made me
laugh so hard I broke all my furniture.
