[Royal Minister of Stuff]

Doc Stu mentioned LEAGUE of EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, a
six-issue comic series by ABC (and, of course, Alan
Moore) as a source for a possible UA Gaslight
campaign.  It's a good suggestion.  Besides being
chock-full of tasty references (including one in Issue
#2 to an erotic novel called The YELLOW ROOM, which
somehow works in Pollyana and Rebecca of Sunnybrook
Farm), the entire series manages to give the Victorian
Era a postmodern feel.  Each issue ends with a few
pages of ads, some of which are authentic 1800s
hucksterism and some of which are fake (Such as the
one for the Yankee Rubber Whore.)  Even if you don't
read the comic itself, there's a list of footnotes on

which is sort of cheating, but, hey, it's worth
looking at.

I know back in college, my friends would have wanted
to do an Edwardian (1920s, 30s) campaign, but that's
because they liked wearing fedoras and 23rd Street
Skimmers (round straw hats like you see in rallies for
US political parties during movies.)  The females I
knew were fond of being flappers because they had the
chests for it.
