Yup, I was about to post mentioning them. Renaissance/Middle Ages alchemists
became chemists and creted various drugs in the modern age. As alchemists
felt they would become purified and rarefied and special (lead into gold,
philosophically), so the modern alchemists used drugs to clarify their
perceptions and beliefs.
One of their leaders, back in the Renaissance, was a hermaphrodite, yup.
There was mentions of him made in the modern-day metaplot, which I didn't
follow.
It was all quite good. I NPCed one, briefly, in a Mage game, and I'd say
their outlook was UAish enough.
