Not purifying so much as perfecting for me anyway.  Uniting knowledge of 
chemistry and knowledge of self to push yourself to the next level.  
Synthesizing your own drugs would seem essential to me.  I get the image of 
a narcomancer collecting their own urine and distilling out the water to 
regain the chemicals that passed through as well as their hormones.

But using that needle to shoot your own urine back into your veins, that's 
good stuff.
