Well, the Demagogue is really about telling people what they want to hear,
also...
I pictured that what Hitler ended up doing was slowly, deliberatly, showing
people the dark, terrible thing that was at the heart of what they wanted.
He took a broken Country, and made them whole. He showed them victory, and
hope, and pride. And one by one, he took those things away. Think about how
many of the Nazi failures are laid right at his feet.
And then, when "what they wanted" was a failure, he made it an *atrocity*
that everyone who fought on the losing end of WWII participated in. That
"what they wanted" had resulted in the Holocaust.
And whether they knew it or not, they had asked for it.
