Be that as it may, I understand the reason why most members of the OA think
that adepts and avatars are both crazy, and both equally so.  Adepts have to
stay staggeringly drunk all the time, or drink buckets of coffee, or steal
cars and can't sober up, take a nap, or say, I already own a car.  

Avatars meanwhile say that it's more important to depend on some invisible,
intangible, possibly imaginary force to protect you with sheer luck, and
then they get shot in the face and die.

Again, most characters, and people like myself are more worried about Alex
Abel, than we are about Amelia Erhart (sp?).
