Which sounds very Nietzschean.
I suppose the moral ambiguity of the archetypes keeps this from being a significant question.

Does there need to be an endpoint? couldn't it be an eternal cycle, never begninning or ending?
A significant rewrite of UA could involve the universe and the Comte getting stuck in a cycle of reincarnation, even after the proper stopping point. Then the best course of action would be to stop any further ascensions, as the universe won't be getting any better from here on out. Which places the Comte and the IC as misguided villians and major threats to PCs who try to fix the problem.
