Read "Surely you're Joking, Mr. Feynman". Nobel prize winner sets himself up as a trickster, by any reading. Other avatars might not be as obvious (various conmen, perhaps Joey Skaggs) but are out there somewhere.

I don't think ritual intent is a necessary condition for avatarhood, or even ana dvantage if you are an avatar. A fool with some ulterior motive is no fool, so ritual intent could actually harm his bid at godwalker.

Some archetypes must be basic and familiar by their very nature. Especially older ones, very normal basic things like The Mother or The Warrior (War). These would be so ingrained into our psyches that for them to have a cool twist would force them away from their actual legitimate role as a psychological aspect of humanity.
