The monster under the bed. The punishment of bad behavior and undone schoolwork. No Santa Claus. Child-eaters kills children, plain and simple.
The scariest part is, they *are* children. Horribly abused and vengeful children, but your pride and love nonetheless.
Despite what you may think, your children are not necessarily happy with their lives or you. Maybe you weren't present at his Most Important Game Yet, or didn't remember her birthday, or you resorted to babysitters a little too often. When he gets bullied around in school, are you sure you're supporting him, talking with him and doing something about it---not just hugging and saying it's okay?
In most instances, these kids continue through their lives, although suffering from a series of subconscious traumas, maybe not trusting and remembering you as much as you thought they should, because YOU did pay his education, after all...
And other times...
The creature called child-eater is born as described above. There are two known results of this: the first being your child's subconscious mind merging with it, consequently begging for redemption from this miserable life and projecting the desire to kill him into your head. You will carry out his request to the best of your abilities, not controlling yourself---but still realizing what you are about to do. The lucky victims die by their own hand; the more unfortunate don't have the strength to do so, and spend the rest of their lives unable to forget what they've done.
That's the result, if you love your child, really do, really intend to show it, but are quite never able to do it for one reason or another. If you neglect the kid altogether, someday you realise he's not there. Depending on the circumstances, it may take a while.
This time also the child-eater merges with the child's mind, and affects his physiology as well: it's strangely fierce for its size. The newborn entity is drawn to problematic families, in it's own perverted way encouraging parents to take care of their kids. First it stalks the victim, arousing fear in hope of making the parents care. If not a success, it beats the victim near death. Ultimately, it will kill her, if the parents won't care.
Caring is not hiring security guards or calling the police or buying the newest toys; it's showing love, compassion, keeping company, discussing whatever problems they may face, accepting them as they are---not trying to do it all by setting limits and standards. All in all, making sure they grow up in a healthy and loving environment.
Love your children.
