[UA] Stereotypes and archetypes

Greg Stolze makes a distinction between the two –types:

Stereotypes are found in literature and movies and popular culture in general.

Archetypes are found in history.

While it's clear that archetypes can find theirselves ending up in pop culture, I don't see any reason why popular personalities and stereotypes in famous stories couldn't find their way to real life: don't Joe Pesci and Dirty Harry bring up that Bad MoFo imagery, and isn't it quite easy for freaks or Bad MoFos to simply live up to that image? Given the enormous effect the media has on people, I think it's credible.

Characters in popular culture have BECOME history, as I see it, if there are enough people willing to be like them. The WECHBY is a fine example, innit?
