That adds some pep. An alternate to your admittedly yummy Sleeper scenario
would be the "War of the Worlds" option: Nothing the PCs does works,
they're desperate and scared, until it starts to rain. Pretty soon the
delicate lonely lunchboxes are thrashing in the mud and slowly rusting
still.
(To make this work really well, I'd amp up their reproduction time to maybe
an hour or a half hour, but make them fragile. Those factors make it a
real bash-fest, since you can pretty much kill one with one kick and no
roll, but the initial ease of defeat gives way to their increasing numbers.
Plus, any cautious PCs who examine before doin' the old bashy smashy --
especially against something that doesn't immediately attack -- are going
to see their usually-wise caution backfire because it gives the unseen LLs
more time to reproduce.)

If the reinstatement of capital punishment was clearly doing nothing to
reduce the number of murders in those states permitting it, it certainly
appeared to be cutting down on the number of confessions.
