Brilliant. They reproduce very slowly, but occasionally a major city
will see its rate of auto theft rise over several weeks... none of the
cars is ever recovered, and the cops never find the chop shop. And
although no one notices, there are more and more cars on the streets
that don't belong to anyone...

When the predatory cars start getting dense in the city, some of them
drive off to other hunting grounds, while the rest start to become more
overt in their feeding and reproducing. That's usually when the Sleepers
have to come in and clean house.
