Speaking of UA song lyrics, this is one of my favorites. Ross Johnson is a
long-time Memphis singer and musician. He played with Tav Falco & the
Panther Burns quite a few times.
This song is so clearly about a dipsomancer obsessed with the Naked Goddess
that it's, well, that's what it is.
"Wet Bar" by Ross Johnson
Come back little baby.
Come back to our wet bar.
It's still here.
But you're gone.
Why did you go away?
Why did you take our wet bar...happiness...out of our lives?
Don't you love me?
Like you used to do?
So I got a drinking problem.
What's new?
Couldn't we work it out?
Couldn't we have a drink or something?
Couldn't we have another drink?
Why do you hate me?
Did I ever say anything mean to you?
Did I ever ever ever ever ever hit you?
Once?
Okay, I yelled at you once.
But I never ever ever ever ever ever held out a drink on you baby.
Every time you needed a drink, I was there.
You needed beer, you needed wine, liquor, anything, I was your wet bar
slave.
Yeah, you can call me a wet bar slave, baby.
But that's all over.
No more six packs. No more jugs of Gallo. No more nothing.
You're gone, and the wet bar went with you. No more wet bar paradise.
Just me! And a jug of beer! Nothing!
Do you understand what you did to me?
You haint!*
You hussy!
You...you...you....JEZEBEL!
* Appropriately enough, "haint" is Southern slang for a haunt, a ghost.
