Ah, good. Change the powers, not the taboo or charge-gaining. 

By becoming physically immaculate, the adept is able to reveal the
"filth" of those around him. By wiping away the physical dirt from the
world, the adept actually causes psychic "dirt" to be exposed and to
proliferate.

I like it. The "holier-than-thou" school. It makes the adept into a
really despicable character in some ways, even though he or she probably
thinks of herself as perfect and good. A good school for politicians,
televangelists, etc.
