Bushrangers - they were kind of an anarchist/freedom fighter/highway robber
thing (each individual was different).
Some of them had such colourful names, such as Captain Midnight, that I
included them in the superheroic history of an Australian comic setting that
was briefly discussed a few years ago (I think that the financial backer's
wife talked him out of it).
>>>I remember the name Ned Something-or-Other as being one of the big

I think you're confusing Ned Kelly (famous for his iron armour) with
Rasputin. Kelly put on some scary-looking armour (including a full-face
helmet), only to get shot in the leg and arrested. He was tried and hanged;
his famous last words were "Such is life" IIRC.
Ned Kelly became rather famous in Australia, helped not a little by a series
of films (the first was made in the 1900s, I think).
There could be something UA in this guy.
Try a websearch on "bushrangers", perhaps using an Australian search engine.
Or just use Google, which will probably find what you want anyway.
