Seems to be a lot of "kids are weird because parents/bullies/schoolmates are
cruel" threads being chucked around.
Wouldn't it make the setting more interesting (and keep with UA's accountability
design goal) if we focused on kids who are weird because they -want- to be? "An
unhappy childhood made me an adept"? That's so predictable. Kids understand
power, violence and secrecy as well as adults; why not give them the benefit of
being able to access complex motivations and histories too? Keep the characters
interesting.
How about a shoolkid cabal that actually runs the school? The teachers are
mindwiped puppets; the chess club run things with their yearbook voodoo dolls
and abominable servant bodyguards. Anorexia-as-epideromancy makes a cool angle
too - it's a legit form of self-harming, after all.
