I remember an excellent episode of "Tales from the Darkside".  This kid kept
talking about the monster he was sure that was living under his bed.  You
got to see this thing actually manifest itself at night.  Called itself the
"Shadowman".  Rather than being after him, it was his protector.  He started
using it to scare bullys away.  At the end of the episode, he was trying to
scare some people with the Shadowman.  This Shadowman shows up at the
playground they are at, nighttime of course, and scares everyone off.  The
kid stays behind and is surprised when the Shadowman attacks him.  The last
thing he hears is the Shadowman saying, "I'm not your shadowman".  Guess
there were supposed to be one of these things under every kids bed.  I
haven't seen that for a long time.  Some of my rememberance is probably off,
but you get the idea.
