It seems like a strong idea to me, though it should probably be an add-on
book with some tailored scenarios. The goodness of the idea comes from the
following truth about adolescence: That is the best time for the kind of
obsessions which power UA to develop. The book could concentrate on the ways
that obsession skills come about in people's lives. When and how do people
discover that they channel the Necessary Servant? Or the Mystic
Hermaphrodite? Who is the True King of the vacant lot on the corner? How do
Bibliomancers become that way (see my life for *an* answer)? What about
Epiduromancers (see any number of Lifetime movies for *an* answer)? If you
are obsessed with Guns, or Martial Arts, or Gambling, that's likely when it
happens. Of course there are lots of failed Adepts because you can't support
Peeking-In-The-Shower-mancy into adulthood, and Obsession (Dinosaurs) isn't
that mystically powerful. Are they turned into more conventional Adepts by
others, or do they just lose it? What is that experience like?
The biggest strength of this book would be in fleshing out the handwave that
goes "and then she hooked up with the OU." How did that happen? How did the
clue come about? Can teachers identify the ego strength that magic requires,
or do they have to be vigilant for the earliest magical effects? Why do they
take apprentices (duty, fear of untrained mages, control, protect them from
being "hushed")? Avatars likely don't have Masters. What is that experience
like?
UA Babies, I like it. <--Micah.
