I'd say he dies.  The IC can't ever be full because there is no first and 
last man.  Things go normally.  332 people will eventually end up in the IC, 
but without the Comte ascending the universe doesn't get remade.

Instead it just keeps going like it normally would until the world ends.  
Unless someone was terribly clued in about the IC and the nature of the 
Comte and his current physical condition they wouldn't notice a thing.
