I've a vague memory that Greg said once that if you nuke il Comte, he comes
back 10 minutes later, only now he's RADIOACTIVE.

Wait, no, that was Cthulhu. :-)

Seriously, one perfectly valid is that he's invulnerable to all harm, and
you just can't hurt him.

Personally, if a group had actually managed to catch the Comte, I'd try to
have him talk his way out of it. If they actually did try attacking him,
crash blam boom, half the Invisible Clergy do horrible horrible things to
the PCs.
