You have title right, and the author is Louis Sachar -- also the author of 
_Holes_ the 1999 Newbery winner and a fantastic book.  I take great pleasure 
in knowing that the Sachar books (especially the "Wayside School" series) 
are incredibly popular with kids, even the very reluctant readers.
